Agent of Change - Power of Team

The girls earned their Power of Team Award by working together as a team to plan their upcoming community service project for the lcoal Ronald McDoanld house and by reading the comic book Super story in the Agent of Change book. All year, in anticipation of a February tour, the girls have been collecting pop can tabs for the local Ronald McDonald House. As a team, the girls decided to cook and serve dinner for the House residents as part of their tour. As a team the girls decided and planned their dinner menu and created some to-do-lists. They finished their evening making paper flower bouquets to use as table decorations and to leave as gifts for the residents.

A colorful display of flowers!

Agent of Change Journey - Power of One

At the January sleepover the girls earned their Power of One Award of the Agent of Change Journey. We talked about each of us has the power to be an agent for change and how just one person can make a difference, no matter how young. They talked about their friends Reagen and Ruthie who were featured in the December American Girl magazine. In response to the Haiti earthquake, Reagan raised money for the relief efforts by swimming laps. Reagan was inspired by their friend Ruthie, who was born in Haiti and adopted by a Springfield family an an infant.

The girls also created and shared picture collages to demonstrate their own special uniqueness and powers.

Healthy Relationships

At our January troop sleepover, the girls earned their Healthy Relationships badge by discussing and demonstrating friendship. To earn their badge, the girls worked on friendship quizes, discussed friendship and girl drama issues, created friendship bracelets and friendship boxes, brain-stormed about fun & free activities they could do with their friends, played emotion/body language charades, and watched a movie with friendship and bullying themes, Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Decorated friendship boxes which the girls later filled with slips of paper saying nice things about each girl.

Enjoying an outdoor hot tub on a snowy evening ... a fun, free friendship activity

Girl Scout Sleepover

For our January activity, the troop had lots of fun at its 2d annual sleepover. As you can imagine with 4th grade girls, there was lots of laughter, chatter and silliness, but not a lot of sleep. It was a busy night as the girls earned their Healthy Relationships and Cookie Connection badges and started on their Agent for Change Journey.

No sleepover is complete without pizza or ice cream sundaes. The girls made their own pizzas for dinner and enjoyed making their own ice cream sundae creations.

They did eventually make it into their sleeping bags to watch a movie.

Gingerbread House Decorating Party

In December, the troop gathered to celebrate the holidays. We had a lot of fun decorating gingerbread houses as past of our Art in the Home badge. We also collected hats, gloves and mittens for donation to a local shelter.

The girls also had fun eating the icing and candy. What a sugar buzz!
